bullet  General Notes:

In 1656 Charles St Etienne, Kt, made over to Thomas Temple and William Crowne all his interest in a grant of Nova Scotia. He was appointed governor of Arcadia by Cromwell. In 1657 he set out for Nova Scotia, where he occupied the forts of St John and Pentagoet. At the Restoration, his claims to retain governorship were disputed, but on his return to England, they were finally upheld. He was created Baronet of Nova Scotia 7 July 1662 by King Charles II. In 1670, in accordance with the Treaty of Breda, he surrendered Nova Scotia to the French governor. He was subsequently resided in Boston, Massachusetts until 1672 or 73 when he returned to England. He died unmarried.
