Capt O'Brien
Home Office.

Norwich April 10, 1846.
My dear O'Brien
I should be much obliged by your making the enquiry at the Colonial Office about my nephew.
The name is Sydney Malet Scroggs, he went to New Zealand about four years ago in the Brougham, as a Surveying Cadet under the Surveyor Mr Brees, in the Service of the New Zealand Company. He was engaged for three years and I believe was principally employed at or in the neighbourhood of Wellington. On the expiration of his engagement with the New Zealand Company, he entered on board the Victoria, which is a Brig, I believe in the Government Service commanded by Capt Richards his last letter, is from on board that vessel dated Hobart Tasmania 22nd April 1845 - and he said they were going to take Guns and ammunition to Auckland, and expected to sail the next day.
Believe me
Affecty yours
C C Dansey
Thought to be Charles Cornwallis Dansey R.A.
