Gladys was a very successful actress in the early 20th century specialising on Shakespearean roles. She married Henry Herbert with whom she had worked for many years.

There was a large attendance at the Theatre Royal, Exeter, last night when the boards were occupied by Mr F R Benson's company in the favourite Shakespearean comedy "As You like It"

Shakespearean productions are always a source of delight to many playgoers, and the F.R. Benson company have received an enthusiastic welcome, repeated night after night, during the current week. Mr Henry Herbert, who has the direction of the company, and its performances are altogether admirable. . . . . Miss Gladys Vanderzee's Ophelia was a very clever and artistic effort. . Gladys receives many positive reviews in the papers of the day
