16th Regiment of Dragoon Guards, Gervis (sic) Stanford Deverill to be Cornet, by purchase, vice Bonham, whose appointment has not taken place.
In 1837 Gervase was living in a freehold house in Castle Gate Nottingham
Gervase served in the 16th or Queens Regiment of Light Dragoons, and 90th Regiment in the Crimea (wounded), also in India. He was of Petersham.
Deverill Gervas Stanford Esq. 1859 31 December. Letters of Administration of the personal estate and effects of Gervas Stanford Deverill late of Nantes in the Empire of France Esquire formerly a Colonel in Her Majesty's 90th Regiment of Light Infantry deceased who died 28 October 1859 on the Island of Noirmontiers in the said Empire were granted at the Principle Registry to Anne Spencer Deverill of Wrecclesham near Farnham in the County of Surrey Widow and Relict of the said Deceased she having first sworn. Effects under £5,000
Research Notes:
One might surmise that John Bland father of Jemima was not in favour of this marriage, at least at this time.
Hence the young couple chosing a "runaway marriage" at Gretna Green to avoid restriction.
Gervase however put the matter beyond doubt some 7 days later below.
Gervase Stanford Deverill is shown in the IGI as marrying Jemima Helar Bland on 4 Oct 1823 at St Savior York, and a baptism for him is also recorded on the 25 Sept 1803 at Clifton with Clapton Nottinghamshire.
Gervase married Jemima Kelar BLAND [15934] [MRIN: 5700], daughter of John BLAND Ormside Lodge WES [25981] and Unknown, on 4 Oct 1823 in St Saviour York. (Jemima Kelar BLAND [15934] was born on 18 Feb 1806, baptised on 10 Feb 1808 in St Leonards Shoreditch Church London and died on 16 Jul 1824 in S Benigno Staglieno Genoa Italy..)
Gervase next married Anne Spencer JULIUS [825] [MRIN: 267], daughter of Dr George Charles JULIUS [51] and Isabella Maria GILDER [52], on 4 Aug 1835 in Petersham SRY. (Anne Spencer JULIUS [825] was born on 19 Nov 1814 in Richmond SRY, baptised on 6 Feb 1815 in St Mary Magdalen Richmond SRY, died on 28 May 1898 and was buried on 28 May 1898 in France.)
