Bath Abbey - South aisle, South wall, opposite the fifth Bay:
Sacred to the Memory of William Wharton Esq,
of the Ifland of faint Chriftopher, who departed this life,
universally regretted, on the 18th day of September 1784.
Aged 50 years.
This Monument is erected by his grateful and Affectionate
Son-in-Law John George Goldfrap..

Arms. Sable, a maunch Argent within a bordure . . . . . (Wharton, not given in Papworth, page 978), impaling: Sable, a lion passant Argent. (The paint is much worn away). Crest. None

1784 Thursday, September 23. Saturday, died at his lodgings in this city, aged 50, William Wharton, Esq; of the island of St Christopher. ("B.C.". See also "G.M." for 1788, page 189, and "Town and Country Mag" for 1784 page 560).
