Thomas emigrated to Australia leaving Liverpool on the British Trident" in July 1855 arriving Newtown Geelong 3 October 1855,
His parents having emigrated from St Ives in Cornwall. For a long time I thought he was educated in St Ives as I have an algebra textbook inscribed T. Barker, St Ives Gentlemen's Academy. (Margaret Birkinshaw, Fay Weldon's mother, and I went looking for it but it had long since vanished.) - Chris

Deaths.
Barker. On 16 February, at Ararat, Thomas Lugg, beloved father of T M, New Zealand, G M Footscray, and the late J R, Western Australia, aged 81 years. A colonist of 61 years.
The Age 1 Jan - 31 Mar 1913.

Barker Family Tree Ancestry - 2022
By 1870 Thomas had two Hotels (The Royal) one unnamed in Barkly Street Ararat which was only a bullock track and lines of miners tents and small wooden buildings. He also owned two block of land at Snake Valley between Linton & Ararat.
Up until 1879 Collins Street Ararat was the family home.
By 1881 Thomas had sold the hotels and was now living in Vincent Street. The two blocks of land at Snake Valley were sold around 1890.
In 1891 Rate Notice, Thomas was working as a Clerk and still living at Vincent Street where he passed away on the 16 Feb 1913 aged 81 years.
The Death Notice read. Thomas Lugg Beloved Father of Thomas Lugg Mankey Barker of New Zealand, George Mildren Barker of Footscray and the late John Richard Barker of Western Australia. A Colonist of 61 Years.
Story with help from the Ararat Library and the local Historical Society I was able to check old newspapers ( The Mount Ararat Advertiser)
