bullet  General Notes:

Frederick was sent to N Z for his health about 1884.

Diane Catherine Wasilewski Lucas writes 2021:
"Fred Bateman was the eldest, used to be the organist and choirmaster in Uncle Tom's Cathedral which had twin spires, in Christchurch, New Zealand. For some reason or other he developed epileptic fits and it was a terrible thing to watch him suffer them. He finally wanted to live in Glasgow, Scotland, the reason being he knew someone from New Zealand who lived there. My father sent him money each week and that, with what he earned giving music lessions, put him over for a time. But he got so bad that my sister, Winnie, went up to Scotland when she was about 22 and stayed for about two months, until he died."
