Charles, who died in his 90th year was known as "Father of the City Corporation" (London). He was member for Queenhithe ward for 50 yrs from 1857

DEATH OF C.J. TODD: FATHER OF THE CITY CORPORATION.
The death took place at Wentworth House, the Green, Richmond, on Monday, of Mr. Charles John Todd, in his 90th year. Deceased, who has resided in Richmond for many years, was the "Father of the City Corporation." He was elected to the Corporation for the Queenhithe Ward in December, 1857, and had been re-elected for the fifty subsequent years. Two months ago the Corporation recognised Mr. Todd's long services by passing a resolution of congratulation to him on the attainment of his municipal jubilee. Mr. Todd was offered the aldermanic gown on four occasions, but declined it. Deceased was also a member of the City Lieutenancy.
The funeral took place at Richmond Cemetery on Thursday, when the Vicar of Richmond, the Rev. Max Binney officiated. The mourners were the Rev. C. J. Todd, Messrs. A. Todd, H. C. Todd, G. M. Todd and A. S. Ranth, Rev. A. B. Gwynn, Mr. C. R. Taylor, Mr. H. H. Taylor, and the Rev. E.V. Fenn. The coffin. consisted of an elm shell, with oak outer case and brass fittings, and bore the following inscription :--" Charles ' John Todd. Born 23rd December, 1818. Died 27th July, 1908." There were no ~ flowers, by request. The funeral arrangements were carried out by Messrs. Drew and Sons.
