Gravestone: dated 1917, red granite peaked top obelisk, concrete base

Mrs Mary Garnham.
Career of a pioneer who passed to her reward recently.
The death occurred in Houghton on Sunday, March 11th of one of the oldest residents of the district in the person of Mary Ann, widow of George Garnham, in her 82nd year. Despite her great age deceased has always enjoyed good health up to within two weeks of her death, when heart trouble developed. The late Mrs Garnham, whose maiden name was Fenn, was born in Henley, Suffolk County, England and in 1855 came to this country with her sister. There were no fast liners or railroads in those days and she was nine weeks on the voyage. She came to Pt. Burwell by boat and thence to Robert Garnham's at Straffordville, with whom she made her home for some time. In 1860, she was married to George Garnham, who predeceased her in May 1915.
For 53 years she lived on the old Homestead on Talbot Street, near Straffordville, where she was a real helpmeet (sic) to her husband, and active in all good works. She was associated with the Believers and was consistent in her Christian life and a loving mother. She is survived by four sons, Charles R., on the Homestead; W. F., of Wanstead; George S., of Dunboyne; and Sheriff H., of Calgary; and one daughter, Mrs N. Fuller of Houghton. Third death removes the last of the Garnhams and Fenn's who came to this country from the Old Land. The funeral took place from the residence of her daughter, Mrs Nicholas Fuller, to the Guysboro Cemetery, the service being conducted by Thomas Toureau. The pallbearers were her sons and sons-in-law.
