2. Tax Assessors Hemingstone Suffolk: Richard Fenn & Byham Laws, 1829, Parish of Hemingstone.
Richard was for many years the Parish Assessor collecting Tax at Hemingstone.
In 2001 the researcher, E L Fenn, visited Mr & Mrs Pyer at Old Hall Farm, which, almost 200 years before Richard had leased from Rev John Longe, following his fathers occupation of the farm.

During an extensive restoration of the old farm house by the Pyer's, old Land Tax Assessment forms & documents belonging to Richard were found behind a cupboard, dated 1829 they are almost 200 yrs old.

It records Richard was assessed for £3 12s 0d for the arable & pasture land he leased from Rev John Longe of Coddenham.

Robert Fenn presumably his father by then aged 79 was assessed for 8/- on arable & pasture land owned by him. However this was exonerated possibly due to his age.

The following gives examples of Taxes being levied at the end of the turbulous reign of George IV, and how they were collected.
