Mrs. Fortescue was very widely known in Ottawa and leaves a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. She was the daughter of the late Alexander J. On August 28 1877 the deceased married the late Lawrence K. Fortescue of the Royal Northwest Mounted Police, who retired from the position of comptroller in 1917 after completing 41 years of splendid service In recognition of which he received the CMG. After the death of her husband, which occurred at Oxford. England in 1917 , Mrs. Fortescue returned to Ottawa where she spent the remainder of her life. Mr. Fortescue was buried at Stratford-on-Avon. (buried in Wilmcote Warwickshire)
