Merchant (Turkey trade). Set up factory at Ratcliffe, Southwark in 1677 to manufacture crown glass. In 1695 was a Commissioner for managing the duty of glass. Factory passed down through four generations until it was destroyed by fire in 1794. This is the John Bowles mentioned as a friend of Samuel Pepys in his diaries.
John married Katherine COBET [31126] [MRIN: 11020], daughter of Vincent COBET [31127] and Unknown.
