From Who Was Who 1929-1940:
METCALFE, Brig.-Gen. Francis Edward, C.B. 1919; C.M.G. 1917; D.S.O. 1916. Lincolnshire Regiment; born 1878; only son of Francis Metcalfe, Metcalfe Park, Enfield, Co. Kildaire. married: one son one daughter. Served European War, 1914-18 (C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O. and bar, Chevalier Legion of Honour, despatches, twice wounded).
Address: The Lordship, Chuchgate, Cheshunt. (Died 26 Feb 1934)

Commanded 7th Lincolns (51 Bde, 17 Divn). DSO 3.6.16 (no citation), Bar 28.7.18: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the defence of a position. By his skillful leadership and authority his battalion succeeded in beating off six determined attacks by the enemy. He personally directed his battalion during the operation, when his courage and cheerfulness were the greatest inspiration to the entire garrison."

The History of the 17th Division would indicate that the action in which Metcalfe won his Bar was the defence of the Ancre Line during the german Offensives around 24th March, 1918.
"Who's Who" (1928) gives his address as Bridge House, Waltham Abbey.
