AUGUSTUS SINTZENICH, Breaking Peace wounding, 8th May 1843.
AUGUSTUS SINTZENICH was indicted that he on the 1st of April, having in his hand a pistol loaded with gunpowder and leaden shot, did by feloniously drawing the trigger endeavour to discharge the same at and against John Clarke Haden, clerk, with intent to maim him.
Numerous officials and congregation gave conflicting testimony as to where the pistol was pointed, and the general circumstances pervading. Experts could not agree that the pistol was loaded sufficiently to effectively fire a ball, and it appears it did not discharge.
This evidence gives some idea of the state of mind of the accused.
SAMUEL LLOYD. I am an inspector of the City police. The prisoner was given into my custody on this charge, and conveyed to the station-next morning (Sunday) be gave me a letter, to forward to his friends, I produce it (letter read). "To E. R. Sintzenich, Esq., 41, Moscow-road, Bayswater, April 1, 1843. Dear Brother, I wish to inform you of the situation I am in; I took it into my head this afternoon to have a pop at the clergyman in St. Paul's, and am now in a police-station in an alley that leads out of Fleet-street. I don't care much about it, as I did no harm; but be so good as not to tell papa and mamma yet, as it will put them out. My examination comes on Monday at twelve o'clock, as I hear. I want you to come to see me, and no one else till I see you; but it did exasperate me above a bit when I heard the fellow calling the usurper, Queen, when I have lately discovered that James Stuart is the right sovereign. Give my love to all, and tell them not to be uneasy about me. Inquire for me at the police-station, Fleet-street."
The Jury found Sintzenich "Not Guilty"

Obituary
The death is announced of the Rev John Clarke Haden, M. A. who has for many years past has been known as an active London clergyman. He was educated at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, where he took his BA degree in 1827, and, having held some Minor offices in the church, was appointed in 1834 to the post of a Priest in Ordinary to King William IV, and continued in the same office during the reign of her present Majesty. In the same year he was appointed to a Minor Canonry in St Paul's Cathedral, and while discharging his duties in that capacity was, during one of the weekday services, fired at by a person in the body of the church, but escaped unhurt. This Minor Canonry he resigned a few years since. In 1839 he was nominated by the Dean and Chapter of St Paul's to the Rectory of Hutton near Brentwood, and in 1846, was appointed to a Minor Canonry with the Precentorship in Westminster Abbey, both of which, with his appointment at Court, he held until the time of his death."
