bullet  Research Notes:

James did not get on with his step mother in Wellington so left home and went to sea. He was at sea for 13 years, rising to Second Mate aboard clipper ships. He and Annie Atkins were married June 23, 1888, in Belper, Derby, England in the Congregational Chapel. Following his marriage, James made one, final sea voyage ultimately settling near Tillamook, Oregon.
Once landed, he sent for Annie, and she, by herself, sailed for the east coast of the United States and then traveled overland joining him in 1889.
They shortly thereafter moved to Portland, Oregon, and then later to Clark County, Washington where they both lived until their deaths. Their issue spread through the USA.

James was living in Fishers Clarke co Washington State USA in 1915 and is photographed in front of their home "Heritage" with his wife and family.
