bullet  General Notes:

John Nugee writes 2016
"The Nugée family is of French Huguenot origin, emigrating from France as protestant refugees in 1710. The spelling of the name was then Nougé, and an earlier version was "de la Nouge". Nouge is Pyrenean dialect French for snow (it is connected to the modern Parisian French word neige) and the family folklore is that the family were "the family from the snow", ie from the high Pyrenees. It was a protestant stronghold, and it could easily be true, but we have no direct evidence of this.
The family first went to Ireland (Dublin), where they stayed for about 100 years and where the surname changed to its current form of Nugée. In 1806 my ancestor Francis came to London."
