Adm. pens. (age 17) at CAIUS, June 12, 1834. [Eldest] s. of the Rev. Charles, of Stapleford, Herts. B. at Topcroft, Suffolk. Schools, Richmond, Surrey, and Woodley, Maidenhead. Matric. Michs. 1834; B.A. (13th Classic) 1838; M.A. 1841. Fellow, 1841-74. Adm. at Lincoln's Inn, Nov. 20, 1841; and at the Inner Temple, Nov. 11, 1843. Called to the Bar, May 5, 1848. Special Pleader; on the Norfolk Circuit and Leicester and Northampton Sessions. For some years editor of John Bull. Author, Verse and Prose Translations, published after his death by C. H. Monro, Fellow of the College. Died June 28, 1874, in London; buried at Stapleford, near Hertford. (Boase, II. 1661; Venn, II. 227; Law Lists; Inns of Court.)

Prowett, Charles Gibbs (1816-74) b. Topcroft, Norfolk, son of the rector. Educated at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, appointed a fellow and lecturer. Called to the bar, 1847. He became a journalist for 10 years, owning and editing John Bull. Died accidentally from a kick by a dray horse.
