John Nugee writes in 2015 of the death of his mother and something of her family history:
The Franklin family is an established British Jewish family of some standing, the most famous associate member (by marriage) being Herbert Samuel (1870-1963) who married Miss Beatrice Franklin at the end of the 19th century. He was a former leader of the UK Liberal Party and the first High Commissioner of British Palestine (in 1920) - see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Samuel,_1st_Viscount_Samuel.
The Makower family is of Polish-German origin, the family still has a strong (East) German contingent which remarkably survived both the Holocaust under the Nazis, and Communism in the DDR; my mother's branch came to the UK in the latter part of the 19^th century.

Rachel married Edward George (Ted) NUGEE Q.C. T.D. [2049] [MRIN: 670], son of Brigadier George Travers NUGEE C.B.E D.S.O M.C. [1546] and Violet Mary RICHARDS [2469], on 1 Dec 1955 in Hampstead MDX. (Edward George (Ted) NUGEE Q.C. T.D. [2049] was born on 9 Aug 1928 in Godalming SRY and died on 30 Dec 2014.)
