Fashionable Wedding at Hawick.
A marriage which attracted a large and fashionable assemblage of French and Scottish Border society took place in the Roman Catholic church of St Mary and St David, Hawick, on Monday forenoon, the contracting parties being the Comte Alain Martial de Bruchard, only son of the late Comte Henry de Bruchard and of the Comtesse Henry de Bouchard, and Mrs Pamela Aubrey Wilson, second daughter of Mr and Mrs F Aubrey Wilson of Strathmore.
The bridegroom is a well-known member of French society stop on his father's side he is a grandson of Colonel the Comte Charles Martial de Bruchard Colonel in Chief of Empress Eugenie's Guard, and on his mother's side a grandson of Senator Chaverbiere de Sal. In the ninth century the Bruchard's were the reigning Dukes of Swabia. One of the family became Archbishop of Geneva, and a sister married the King of Switzerland.
"THE TIGERS" SECRETARY
The bridegroom's late father was a prominent French Royalist and at the age of nineteen was private secretary to Clemenceau he figured prominently in the Dreyfus case, and was a great friend of Paul Karigeorevi. He was also a well-known French author and journalist.
There was a large and distinguished company present at the ceremony, including prominent members of French society, some of whom had flown from Paris to Croydon. The service was choral, and the union was blessed by his Grace the Archbishop of Edinburgh and St Andrews, who was assisted by the Rev Father Mellon, Hawick, and the Rev Father Donoghue, Galashiels.
RADIANT BRIDE
The church altars were beautifully decorated with white flowers, and the French and British flags were entwined above the canopy through which the bridal party entered the church.
The bride who was given away by her father, was a radiant figure, in an empire gown of ivory crêpe Romaine over pale pink chiffon, with a four yard trail from the shoulder of the same material, trimmed with 17th-century Point d' Angleterre lace lent by the Bruchard family. The pink tulle veil was held in place by a pearl and diamante tiara. She carried a bouquet of pale pink carnations, and wore a diamond pendant and a diamond wristlet watch, the gift of the bridegroom.
The wedding had aroused keen interest, and streets in the vicinity were packed with dense crowds of people anxious to catch a glimpse of the bride. Facilities for viewing the wedding had been afforded the employees of the bride's father's firm, who presented Miss Wilson with a handsome case of solid silver fish servers and eaters engraved with the Bruchard coat of arms.
There were six bridesmaids, the bride's two sisters, Miss Rosemary and Miss Barbara; the bridegroom's sister, Mlle Madeline de Bruchard; two of the bride's friends, Miss Diana Wilson and Miss Scoresby-Jackson and the bride's younger sister Miss Cynthia Aubrey Wilson acted as train bearer.
The Comte Jean de Foucauld-Malembert, who was to have been best man was unfortunately detained in Paris.
The bridesmaids were attired in mist blue printed chiffon, and wore large blue crinoline acts, with blue slippers to match. Each was wearing a coloured bead necklace to tone, and carried a brocade pochette, gifts of the bridegroom
TO LIVE IN PARIS
The bride's mother wore an Italian red lace and georgette dress with hat to match. She also wore a pink and white crystal necklace, gift of the bridegroom.
The ushers were messes Dennis Aubrey Wilson, Walter E F Wilson, James E Glenny, Reginald Moody, William McDonald, R A Vivian Grieve, Ian Mactaggart, and J Cameron Conn.
The bride's going away dress was a tweed coat and skirt.
At the conclusion of the honeymoon the Count and Countess de Bruchard will reside in Paris.
