RAOC Officers Mess Branston Burton on Trent Tuesday Dearest, How terrible the first day of separation is, when I left you Mr Hood stopped his car and Colin hopped out to say how-do - apparently he is in Group 21 and has just been demobilised. He told me he is bringing Jim 1 to Harwick later and will only be at home for a day or so this time. I think he is looking forward to seeing our Colin! Douglas Hood was in the train with me and we had a short chat. Wyn Plant (nee Collis) has had a son but Bunty Stevenson's was tragic Page 2. The child being stillborn and then mother dying just afterwards. The husband was flown from Burmah in 2 days and saw his wife for an hour before the end. There is a 19 month old son. Mrs Thompson has a slight chill and Mr Thompson hasn't been able to go to school for a week but he is very cheery. They have asked me to find out what Basil studied for at University so I am writing to him. There is no news of demob yet but a regular captain is joining our office and Col Payne is arranging for him Page 3. to take over from me - so the Colonel is definitely "on my side" There was no fuss over my leaving early on Saturday 3rd - work has proceeded very smoothly in my absence much to everyone's relief and my satisfaction. How I long to see you both again I do adore you so. All my love dearest Denis. P.S. Glynn Mills started paying £20 per month into your account in June and debited me from June onwards including July. Will you have a word with the bank? 1. This may be J Douglas Hood at that time President of the Scottish Woollen Manufacturers.
Denis married Doris Aubrey STEVENS [29229] [MRIN: 10317] circa 1942. (Doris Aubrey STEVENS [29229] was born in 1912 in Simla Bengal India.)
