bullet  Research Notes:

Julia is not proven as the daughter of Eleanor but likely is, although she wasn't mentioned when the court case took place in 1802 and Eleanor went away with Wallace. Edward might have arranged for her care. Or she could have been born after the break up of the marriage in July 180. She died of epilepsey at New Norfolk Asylum, New Norfolk, Tasmania. Her age was given as 58 which could not be correct. Friends arranged her admission and Julia was not lucid

Julia is a bit of a mystery. In 1841 - I think it is mentioned in the biography of Edward Bromley. A Mrs Cox in Launceston wrote to the authorities to ask that she be admitted to the New Norfolk Asylum because her friends were no longer able to look after her. From Edward's biography:- 'Nevertheless he left a pathetic legatee, his daughter, for whom a friend in 1841 sought admission into the New Norfolk Asylum: she was a destitute epileptic who had become too great a burden on her friends.' This situation is not clear. Mrs Cox was in Launceston but had previously lived in Hobart so we do not know where Julia was; Julia's step mother Sarah Bromley nee Greennow was still living in Hamilton about 70 miles from Hobart. New Norfolk is about 25 miles from Hobart on the way to Hamilton. Julia was diagnosed as having epilepsy before admission and seemed to have been of impaired mental capacity. Her cause of death was given as epilepsy.
