Arms. Argent on a bend engrailed Gules a besant between two swans of the first.
Crest. A swan Argent reposing his dexter foot upon a pellet.
Granted in 1688 to James Clarke, Controller of the Household to James Butler, Duke of Ormond, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland (Brayley, ii 311)

had been to KING WILLIAM and QUEEN MARY Sometime

the CHANDRY to KING CHARLES the 2nd. CONSTABLE
of the CASTLE of DUBLIN and STOREKEEPER of the
CUSTOM HOUSE there, CONTROLLER of the
HOUSEHOLD to the Truly Noble and Great
JAMES, first DUKE of ORMOND (when LORD Lieu of
IRELAND)
and STEWARD of his HOUSE to the time of his death .
He by ELIZABETH his Wife had issue TWO SONS (who
dyed young) and one Daughter MARRIED to Sir JAMES
CLARKE Lord of this MANNOUR
He was Always a True Son of the CHURCH of
ENGLAND to y Interest of which he firmly Adhered
His chief Pleasure was to doe good and be
useful to MANKIND. He was a dutifull son
a Kind brother, a Most Affectionate Husband
a Prudent Father, a Sincere FRIEND, a faithful
SERVANT and an Excellent MASTER. He was
Pious without Superstition Chearful
without LEVITY and Generous without
Profuseness, TRULY Eminent for his
Exact Justice, Unshaken Honesty, Singular
Good Humour and Extensive Charity
which Vertues made him Beloved by y
Good Honor'd even by the Bad, Regarded
by the Great, Consulted by the Wife, And
Justly Valued by all that knew him
He dyed Universally Lamented
November y XXth 1709 Aged 75
