THIS IS THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT of me MICHAEL JOHN ROWLANDSON of Bournemouth in the County of Hants a Lieutenant Colonel in the Retired List of Her Majestys Indian Forces of Madras Presidency
I give and bequeath the following legacies namely
To my dear Wife Mary Catherine any pension or proportion thereof to which I or my executors would he entitled on my behalf and also the balance which may be standing to my credit at the Croydon Branch of the London and County Banking Company and at the Bournemouth Branch of the National,Provincial Bank of England
To my son Walter Rowlandeon the sum of Two hundred pounds
To my daughter Diana Eliza Rowlandson the sum of Two hundred pounds
To my daughter Alice Fanny the wife of the Reverend Churchell Julius (now Bishop of Christchurch New Zealand) the sum of Two hundred pounds
All the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever including the shares of interests I am entitled to as next of kin of my six deceased children under the Settlement made upon my marriage hereinafter called my residuary estate I give devise and bequeath the same unto John Boyle of Dulford House Cullompton in the County of Devon Esquire and my said daughter Diana Eliza Rowlandson Upon trust to permit my dear wife Mary Catherine to have the use of my leasehold dwelling house where I now reside known as "Wood Lodge" with the furniture and other household effects therein for and during her life she keeping the same in good repair and condition and keeping the same insured against loss by fire in the full value thereof and observing and performing the covenants conditions and agreements contained in the Lease under which the dwellinghouse and premises are held and subject thereto Upon trust to sell and convert the same into money or such part as shall not consist of money and to stand possessed of one third part of my said residuary estate in trust for my said daughter Diana Eliza Rowlandson one other third part in trust for my said daughter Alice Fanny Julius and the remaining one third part thereof Upon trust to pay and transfer the same unto the said John Boyle and my said daughter Diana held by them Upon trust for the children of my said son Walter who shall be living at the time of my decease And until my said Grandchildren shall attain the age of twenty one years I direct that the said John,Boyle and my said daughter Diana Eliza shall invest; the same in any authorised investments or upon leasehold securities of which not less then Forty years shall be unexpired at the time of such investment and to pay or apply the income arising from such investments in or towards the maintenance or education of my said Grandchildren or re-invest the same at compound interest as they the said John Boyle and Diana Eliza Rowlandson,shall in their sole discretion consider best I appoint the said John Boyle and my said daughter Diana Eliza Rowlandson Executors of this my Will and hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made declare this only. to be my last Will and Testament IN WITNESS whereof I have to this and the preceding sheet of paper hereto set my hand this twenty ninth day of April one thousand eight hundred and ninety two
