bullet  General Notes:

Arthur Henry Giles family, spent a good deal of time living apart from their parents.
May 1891 (no address)
Dear Mother
Our coughs are going on all right as we the last few nights we have only had one fit between us. We are going to Folkestone on Monday for a fortnight. Aunt Jessie heard we had hooping cough and sent us a sort of lamp affair which she used for Maud. We cant go to school so we have been having a governess but she has been ill the last few days and has not come. Arthur has become a poet though he doesn't know it. Auntie and Groon(?) have gone with Aunt Isabella to stay for 3(?) months. Good bye.
I remain your loving daughter Dorothy.

1 Lansdown Terrace Bath - (July 1895)
My dearest Arthur
Very many happy returns of the day to you. Laura and I have just been squabbling about your age, I said you were 10 to-morrow and Laura said you were 9 to-morrow. We also had a fight on Mad's age, I said she would be 12 in August and L said 13. I'm sure I'm right in both cases. Write back and tell me will you?
Edith and Mabel told us you wanted a box of soldiers, but we think they are too heavy to send so you must buy them with the money we send you. Notice in Laura's letter Auntie Isabella !!!!!!!!!! isn't she affectionate. Mad and I are going to a boarding school at Weston next term, I wonder if we'll like it.
Please give my love to Edith and tell her that I would write to her but I find it too hot, give her the enclosed note but don't show it to Mabel.
Give Edith the crest at the top of the letter (the crest has been torn out) and tell her it's the Mactaggart's crest.
I shan't send you a card, for cards are beastly wastes of tin.
I suppose you are just as much of a fool as when I saw you last, however I'll hope you are a little better.
Tell Edith to try and remember (without laughing) the height of the Spanish combs, and the button on someone's dress.
I expect you'll think this a rotten letter, as it's more for Edith than for you but as you are such a silly fool it doesn't matter at all.
Now as I know nothing which would interest a fool like you I think I'll stop. MIND YOU ANSWER THIS LETTER. With love from Doll (Dorothy). Write Laura a letter for her birthday don't forget its on July 26th.
