Death of Canon ER Eardley Wilmot. The death took place at Clarina, Kenilworth Road, on May 30, after a long illness, at the age of 85, of the Rev Edward Revel Eardley-Wilmot, M A, Honorary Canon of Worcester. Canon Eardley Wilmot was born on February 11, 1814, at Berkswell Hall, the seat of his father, Sir John Eardley Wilmot, Bart, who was for many years MP for North Warwickshire, and afterwards Gov of Tasmania. The late Canon was the third son, his mother being the daughter of Dr Parry, of Bath, and sister of Sir Edward Parry, the Arctic Navigator. He left England at 17 years of age, as Lieut in the Bengal Artillery, but returning home after four years service, went to Trinity Hall, Cambridge, as a gentleman commoner, and took Holy Orders, and the degree of M A. After some time spent as curate to the late Dr Vaughan at Brighton, he took charge of the vicarage of Meriden, as curate in charge, and was appointed vicar of Kenilworth in 1845, holding this living till 1855, when he accepted the Crown living of All Souls Langham Place in London. Here he remained for 15 years, doing much good and arduous work among a population of 15,000 souls. In 1872 he accepted the Crown living of Waddingham, Lincs, and held it until his retirement in 1881. He has since lived at his house, Clarina, Kenilworth Road, Leamington, and, while health allowed, assisted in the services at St Paul's, and Holy Trinity churches, and performed much valued work among sick people in the town. Canon Eardley-Wilmot was twice married, first to Frances, daughter of Canon Ekins, of Salusbury, by whom he leaves one surviving son, Francis, late R.N., and now Secretary to the Church of England Temperance Society. Secondly, in 1848, to Emma Hutchinson, daughter of William Lambert, Esq, of the Bengal Civil Service, who survives him, and by whom he had 3 sons and 2 daughters, all now alive. 1 The Rev Ernest Augustus, MA, now vicar of St Jude's, South Kensington, and Prebendary of Wells; 2 Robert, M B (London), etc and JP for the Borough of Leamington, who is well known in the town and district; 3 Henry, Major in the Madras Cavalry; 4 Edith Agusta, wife of the Rev W Lancelot Holland, MA; 5 Louisa Caroline, wife of Col Vincent Rivaz, of the Bengal Artillery, and late of the Punjaub Frontier Force. The funeral takes place at 2 pm at the Parish Church, Kenilworth, today (Saturday). Leamington Spa Courier 3 June 1899.
