OBITUARY
Mr. ARTHUR BREWIN.
With much regret we record the death of Mr. Arthur Brewin, which occurred at his residence at Twickenham on 30th March 1919, after a protracted illness, at the advanced age of 83 years. Mr. Brewin wan born in London on 17th August 1835 and was educated at Crediton and King's College, Old Aberdeen. He practised as a solicitor from 1856 to 1865, then became a broker on the London Stock Exchange as a partner in the firm of Christie, Brewin and Gribble for over 40 years, and acted as a member for 12 years of the Stock Exchange Committee. During much of this time he was able to give the Council of this Society valuable advice on the financial conduct of its affairs.
Mr. Brewin took great interest in parochial affairs, serving on the Richmond Vestry and both there and at Twickenham on the Free Library Committee. He lectured, chiefly on financial matters, to local literary and scientific societies and was a correspondent to the Economist, Statist, Times, Spectator, etc.
He was elected a Fellow of this Society so long ago as 19th March 1862 and at the time of his death was one of the two oldest Fellows. He served on the Council between the years 1865 and 1896, being Vice-president during part of the time. In spite of advancing years Mr. Brewin was a regular attendant at the Annual General Meetings, usually offering a few helpful comments on the Report of Council, and his kindly presence will be missed by many of the older Fellows of the Society,'
