Joseph of Winscombe Court, then of Woodbury, Wells, Capt 9th Regiment of Foot; J.P. and D.L. for the County of Somerset

In 1815, Capt. Giles. raised a company of men and started to join Wellington in Belgium, but on reaching Dover the news of the battle of Waterloo arrived, and put an end to the war. Capt. Giles retired on a pension and became manager of Stuckey's Bank at Wells.
